ADD+ [Architecture & Digital Design] seeks to transcend the limitations of traditional architectural education by actively integrating design and computational technologies to pursue innovative thinking. The organization goes beyond conventional school design projects, conducting experimental and diverse computation-based architectural projects with the aim of establishing new design methodologies. Through in-depth research and projects in the fields of computational design and architectural design, ADD+ strives to produce meaningful contributions to academia and the industry while nurturing talented individuals.
Computational Design is an innovative approach that leverages cutting-edge computing technologies and vast amounts of data to make the design process more efficient, swift, and sustainable. By applying computation, designers can generate analytical and creative solutions that significantly enhance the quality of their work. ADD+, as an organization specializing in digital design, expands the thinking of its members through computation-based projects and shares various methodologies internally. Additionally, the group aims to increase awareness and broaden the scope of digital architecture through exhibitions. Currently, ADD+ organizes individual and group projects, competitions, as well as activities like Computational Architecture seminars, workshops, and study sessions, all divided into semester and vacation schedules. These projects are eventually presented and exhibited, creating opportunities for discussion and critique with industry professionals, experts, and professors.
Being accepted into ADD+ and participating in its research has been an immensely meaningful opportunity for me. I was able to share and discuss challenges I had previously faced alone, exchanging ideas with fellow members and further developing those ideas. Moreover, stepping outside the boundaries of the school’s architectural curriculum allowed me to experience entirely new approaches and attempts, leading to unexpected projects and advanced learning that approached the level of research conducted in international graduate programs or the professional industry. Of course, this journey wasn’t easy. It felt like taking on an additional design course, and during exhibition preparation periods, the workload was as demanding as an 8-credit course. However, collaborating and competing with the most talented members helped me enhance my design skills, broaden my perspective on design, and gain invaluable experiences that contributed to my growth.
Architecture is deeply interconnected with various disciplines, and when discussing digital technologies, the scope expands even further. ADD+ welcomes anyone interested in digital design based on computational methodologies, including not only those in architecture but also students from diverse fields. Through in-depth projects and study sessions, the organization promotes interdisciplinary projects among its members and advances research by building on accumulated resources. At the same time, ADD+ seeks to explore new fields that have not yet been attempted, aiming to uncover diverse possibilities.
